Welcome to our April Newsletter and Happy Earth Day!
Earth Day: We Love This Year's Theme – Invest in Our Planet:
This year’s theme provides the opportunity to think about what investing in our planet means to different people and organizations, and how to drive action across those diverse perspectives and disciplines. For some, it can mean investing time and energy – such as participating in a local beach clean-up or collaborating on a campaign to drive awareness around sustainability. At Investable Oceans, we view it as an invitation to take an active role in shaping our planet’s future through impactful financial investments in the sustainable ocean landscape. In an op-ed shared with our friends at EcoWatch (featured below), our very own principal Tiffany Duong offers her insights into why investing in the Blue Economy is an important and exciting way to fight for our planet this Earth Day, and every day.
What does “invest in our planet” mean to you? We would love to hear your thoughts, which you can share with us through our Contact Us form or LinkedIn page!
TEDxBoston Talk:
Ted was delighted to give his first, well, TED talk at TEDxBoston earlier this month. His talk, “The Oceans are Investable,” was part of a five speaker session titled “The Emerging Blue Economy” that included John Mandelman from the New England Aquarium, Donna Hazard from SeaAhead, Randi Rotjan from Boston University and Bill Thalheimer from Exosonic. Those talks, along with eleven others from the Planetary Stewardship: Ocean Exploration event curated by John Werner and team, will be available online in the near future - stay tuned!
A New and Exciting Ocean Conference:
We were grateful to be included in this past week’s inaugural Sustainable Ocean Solutions (SOS) Summit in Bergen Norway. Hosted by Farvatn and Katapult Ocean, this unique gathering brought together innovators, entrepreneurs, academics, policy makers and venture capitalists to dig deep on the ocean’s challenges and opportunities. The dynamic and multi-layered program generated new ideas, formed and strengthened relationships and serves as a model for taking collaboration and a sense of urgency to the next level. Congratulations and gratitude to Farvatn’s Kristin & Johan Odvar Odfjell and Katapult Ocean’s Ingrid Maurstad & Jonas Skattum Svegaarden, along with their talented teams, for curating an energizing and impactful event.
